This week #HumansofMEA are profiling Audra Broughton, Lead Vocational Teacher, Event Management at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast.
1. What strengths do you bring to the events industry?
"Many years of experience in different roles in various countries within the hospitality, tourism and events sector. My 14 years at the Marriott Resort in Surfers Paradise (now JW Marriott Resort) gave me the skills, experience and confidence to lead a successful and profitable team. As a teacher I maintain industry currency in events by involving myself and my students in corporate events, sporting events, music events, charity events – in fact any event that will develop knowledge and inspire their passion for our amazing industry."
2. It is 5 pm on a Friday – what is in your glass?
"A nice chilled NZ Sauv Blanc."
3. If you had a super power what would it be?
"Teleportation."
4. If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
"Here – this IS my ‘anywhere in the world’ (I am from UK)."
5. How do you like your eggs?
"Boiled, peeled, chopped up in a cup with salt, pepper and butter."
6. Name one thing that makes a great meeting stand out and why?
"Achieving the objectives set out prior without need for another meeting about the same topic."
7. What is a skill no one would know you had?
"I used to be a pretty keen horsewoman, competed in dressage, showjumping and cross country in my younger years."
8. What do you like the most about working in the events industry?
"When I did work in events, I loved the diversity that each day would bring plus the satisfaction of successful event that you spent months planning. I love seeing how quickly our industry can adapt and morph into whatever is needed to survive and flourish."
9. Where is your favourite holiday destination and what activity did you spend most of the time doing?
"New York. Simply sightseeing and absorbing the amazingness!"
10. What is the current TV series you are watching?
"Gangs of London (STAN)."
11. Where would we find you on the weekend?
"Dog beach (not alone, I have a dog!!), mowing the paddock or socialising with friends/family."
