A letter from MEA's new Chair, Vanessa Green
As we approach the end of 2023, it’s an exciting time for the events industry. In-person events are on the rise, travel to gatherings is increasing, and there's a palpable desire for connection. Our focus has expanded to encompass wellness, event legacy, and the enduring impact and sustainability of our endeavours. With all these exciting developments, it's no wonder there's an extra buzz in the air as we race towards year-end celebrations.
It is an honour to serve as the new Chair of Meetings and Events Australia, and I extend the sentiments of the MEA board as we look forward to supporting you and getting to know you better in the upcoming year.
The MEA network has been buzzing with activity in recent weeks. CPD events in Sydney at Cliftons delved into major events and World Pride, while in Melbourne at MCEC, training was provided on site inspections and hosting events. Christmas get-togethers have brought festive cheer in Sydney at member venue Aerial UTS, as well as in Melbourne and Adelaide. A recent webinar with Liz Rivers of The Awards Wizards shared insights on writing award-winning submissions, perfectly timed given the recent opening of the MEA awards entry portal.
All these activities thrive because of the support from remarkable individuals like you, who generously share their knowledge, time, services, and venues across the events industry.
Looking ahead to 2024, the prospect of doing even more is truly exciting, and your involvement will make it possible. If you're interested in joining a branch state/territory committee, please reach out to Claire at MEA. Similarly, if you're eager to volunteer your time, service, product, or skills for learning sessions or webinars, don't hesitate to get in touch. We are here to learn from and support each other, leveraging the fantastic network of event professionals and service providers within the MEA community.
Consider making a new year resolution to get involved in a local MEA event or submit an entry for a MEA award. The 2021-2022 MEA awards showcased almost 70 finalists and winners across the country, spanning 9 categories and 37 awards for individuals, organisations, events, venues, and services. The 2023 entry window is open, providing an excellent opportunity to apply. Check out Liz's webinar on creating award-winning submissions on MEATV if you missed it! Remember, that’s free for members.
For those interested in awards sponsorship, there are still a few opportunities available. Sponsorship not only provides exposure to our members but also reaches a wider industry audience, garnering media coverage for the awards and winners. If you'd like more information, please reach out to Peter McDonald, MEA CEO, or one of the MEA board members for a prospectus.
Thank you for taking the time to look beyond your immediate work and engage with your industry. Together, we can continue to grow and improve, ensuring that MEA members and their businesses exemplify international best practices. I look forward to meeting you and understanding how MEA can contribute to your personal or business growth in 2024, so please share any thoughts or ideas, and reach out to get involved in your association today.
Best regards,
Chair of Meetings and Events Australia
