Meet Emily Smigowski - NT 2021 Ungerboeck Winner

This week #HumansofMEA is spotlighting Emily Smigowski, Events & Media Coordinator at AA&P Events and Northern Territory’s winner of the 2021 Ungerboeck Young Professional Scholarship. Emily answered a series of questions ranging from her dream job to what she believes makes a successful event. 

1. What would your dream job be and why? 

My dream job would be something that involves travelling the world and critiquing the best Hawaiian pizza.  

2. It is 5 pm on a Friday – what is in your glass? 

Espresso Martini.  

3. If you had a superpower, what would it be?  

Time travel. 

4. Name the number 1 place on your bucket list where you would like to travel to and why? 

The number one place on my travel bucket list would have to be Poland, so I could see where my family comes from and meet the rest of my extended family.  

5. What skill or ability would you like to develop? 

Playing the ukulele. 

6. Name anything that makes a great meeting, event or conference stand out to you and why? 

The people. Being able to work with so many different clients, suppliers and delegates to help produce and deliver an event or conference and watch it grow from an idea to reality is something special.  

7. What is the one skill no one would know you had? 

I know the words to any song after listening to it once. 

8. What is one important attribute of a successful leader who inspires you? 

Empathy – I think the ability to see and understand the needs of those around you helps grow better relationships with clients and employees.   

9. You are at an industry networking event. For us who are first timers, what is your top tip on how to connect with people? 

My number one tip would be to find one familiar face in the crowd, if possible, and strike up a conversation with them.  

10. What is the current TV or Netflix series you are watching? 

The Bold Type. 

11. Where would you like to be 10 years from now? 

Road-tripping around Australia.

12. Where would we find you on the weekend?  

Exploring one of the Northern Territory’s amazing national parks, with Litchfield or Kakadu National Park.
