Introducing Leesa - one of MEA's newest SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management graduates
MEA was thrilled to catch up with Leesa Peck to chat with the newest graduate of its Diploma of Event Management program to ask her about her favourite topics, what she's looking forward to now that she's graduated, and to pass on any advice she has for those considering doing MEA's Diploma.
MEA: What did you learn during the SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management course?
Leesa: "So much! I learnt so much about the broader planning aspects of Event Management, which complimented my existing operational experience in the field, and covered topics I had little to no experience in. I also learnt a lot about discipline and juggling work and home life with study."
MEA: What was your favourite topic?
Leesa: "I had 2 favourites - Develop Conference Programs and Develop Event Concepts; Develop Conference Programs was great to really delve into the nitty gritty of planning a great range of conference topics; and I loved the collaborative and creative aspect of Develop Event Concepts."
MEA: How will you use what you have learned in your current role?
Leesa: "I have moved on from the events industry for now, but in my new role, I will be tasked with planning the annual 3-day staff forum, so I'll be able to use the knowledge gained from Managing Budgets, Selecting Event Venues and Registrations to good use."
MEA: What are you most looking forward to now that you have the SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management qualification under your belt?
Leesa: "I’m looking forward to 2 things - More free time and being able to put the skills and knowledge I’ve gained to use."
MEA: If you could give one piece of advice to those thinking about doing the course, what would you say?
Leesa: "The diploma is a wonderful opportunity to challenge yourself and really broaden your skills range and learn from not just the trainer but other participants and their real-life experience. Go into the course with an open mind, but also don’t underestimate how difficult the juggle of work, life and study can be at times."
MEA: Do you have any further feedback about the Diploma or your experience?
Leesa: "Jo is a wonderful trainer – patient, understanding and so knowledgeable. The experience overall has been wonderful, and I’m so thankful I was chosen for this wonderful opportunity. Thank you to Destination NSW and MEA for creating such a program and investing in the development of our industry."
