Meet MEA's Newest Graduate - Sara!
MEA was thrilled to catch up with Sara Wightman to chat with the newest graduate of its Diploma of Event Management program to ask her about her favourite topics, what she's looking forward to now that she's graduated, and to pass on any advice she has for those considering studying with MEA.
MEA: What did you learn during MEA's Diploma of Event Management [SIT50316] course?
Sara: "The diploma covers a lot of subjects. Some I have already had experience with others I did not. I don’t think there was one subject that I did not learn anything from. The theory and practical components are all relevant. Who would have thought I could build an event registration platform?"
MEA: What was your favourite topic?
Sara: "I had a few. I really enjoyed the development of conferences and the marketing and promotions. anything that we did that involved a group presentation I really enjoyed. working with other people from regional NSW."
MEA: How will you use what you have learned in your current role?
Sara: "I have been implementing some of the theories and templates already with the team. I have also shared my learnings with the broader event community within my area."
MEA: What are you most looking forward to now that you have a Diploma qualification under your belt?
Sara: "The next bigger challenge. The Diploma has given me more confidence to deliver all aspects of event management. Now the Diploma has added a large value to the practical experience I already have."
MEA: If you could give one piece of advice to those thinking about doing the course, what would you say?
Sara: "Do it, the support you get from MEA is like nothing else I have received in adult learning and is adaptable for people who work in the industry MEA gets what it is like with the swings and roundabouts of event management and juggling study with working full time."
MEA: Do you have any further feedback about the Diploma or your experience?
Sara: "There were times that I was frustrated that I didn’t understand or couldn’t get the correct answer. Jo is so patient and leads you to the correct answers if you ask for help. Ask for help it is all part of the learning experience."
